When I kicked off this blog on the 1st May 2009, I wasn't too sure what direction I'd be taking with it. One thing I did have in mind was to be the next 'make money online' blog
Essentially, yes I'd like to be able to make a living online or at least supplement my current income. But the idea of this being specifically a make money online blog covered in advertising, trying to get recognised by search engines as a make money online blog quickly went out the window!
I soon realised that this blog won't succeed if I'm in it for the money. I know lots of bloggers say this, but there's a difference between taking the advice of others and realising something for yourself by learning on the job! How did I realise this? Well, first and foremost I discovered that I actually enjoyed the sense of achievement of having my own site and posting daily even though I didn't have a clue how to monetize this site. I still don't have that much of a clue really and it's not that important to me, but I'm learning all the time and will be ready if and when I need to be.

My thoughts and ideas might not be what everybody is after, but if only one person gets some value or enjoyment out of reading my posts then it's been worthwhile writing it! I also realised that it's not just a matter of going flat out trying to get every affiliate program and ad on my site and hoping for people to come on and click and make me some quick bucks! I'm sure some people have been able to do this, but if I advertise something here and someone purchases a useless product or service that they aren't happy with, then they aren't gonna bother coming back to this site ever again. I don't have the traffic to worry about this yet but if I did then If I loose even one reader like this, I've been stupid. A blog without readers and participation is nothing so there's no value in making a quick buck this way if you want to succeed long term! I'd like to think that anything that I do advertise on this site or anywhere else at any stage is a valued product that I know enough about to be confident in promoting it.
This is my online CV and I hope that I'll be able to use it as a focal point to concentrate on online projects. When I get enough readers and earn people's trust then 'maybe' I can look at generating some income out of these projects/websites when I advertise them on my blog! I say 'maybe' as it's not definite that every (or any) of the projects I am or will be working on, are or will be sure fire earners! Indeed, I'm not really focused on doing projects that are solely designed to generate revenue. I might get more enjoyment and experience from a project that I know isn't going to earn a red cent from the offset!
So what's the point then? Well that's what I've realised, this blog isn't here to make money, it's here as something that I get enjoyment out of and hopefully create some money making opportunities from down the line. If it happens, it happens, if it doesn't I'm still enjoying what I'm doing and hopefully getting involved in more and more projects which look good on my CV in the future.
The general consensus is that the success rate of entrepreneurs is approximately 20% (correct me if I'm wrong) so for every 5 projects I kick of with a view to making money out of hopefully 1 works
I've over simplified that a lot, but what I'm trying to say really is that I'm not too concerned for now about making a living online but more about enjoying the experience of trying to come up with ideas that might work! If I stop enjoying working on this blog and the other projects I'm involved in, then there's no point in continuing with them. Obviously I can't have this attitude with everything I do, but I can with this blog and my online ventures as it's my space and my time I'm using and I'm here to enjoy it!
