My week in Liverpool
I got back from my week in Liverpool with my other half last night. Had a great week, it's a great city and the people are really friendly. You can see why the won the european capital of culture award in 2008. The city is steeped in history and the old buildings in the city are brilliant looking.
The main purpose of my visit was for an interview, but I did get round the city a bit and here's some of the things I did:
Toured the city on the yellow duckmarine: this is a nice way to see the city and have a look around the docks when you enter the water for the last part of the tour. The commentary is a bit cheesy but good fun and you'll find out lots about the history of the city on the way round.

We also did the open top bus tour. This is another great way to see the city and you can get on and off as many times as you like during the day. This one is probably better than the yellow duckmarine for the culture vultures that want to pack in as much as they can in one day and see lots. You can drop off at Mattew Street, to see where the Cavern once stood and have a look at the statues of The Beatles there.

Had a look at the beat goes on exhibition at the World Museum Liverpool. This runs to the end of October 2009 and I'd recommend having a look if you're in Liverpool and are interesting in finding out more about the achievements of Merseyside artists from across the years. There's lot's of other stuff in the Museum too and it's free as are most of the other museums (full list here).

Visited Chinatown: It's nice to pop in and have a look, it's not particularly busy but you'll get some nice pictures of the Imperial Arch, donated by Shanghai to Liverpool in 2000. There's also a nice selection of good value restaurants in there. Both of the tours mentioned above, pass through Chinatown. It's amazing how the Chinese have built communities like this all over the world. The Irish have pubs China has towns

Visited the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on either end of hope street. If your in to architecture, then these are worth a look. I have to say the Anglican Cathedral is an amazing looking building.

Shopped at Liverpool One, this is a redeveloped area of the city and it is brilliant. If your shopper and into fashion, then this is the place for you! There's also plenty of places to eat and a 14 screen cinema. There's no sign of a recession in this place.

Anyway, that's just some of the things I seen and done, there's loads more and I'd definitely recommend taking a trip there. I'll definitely go back, hopefully sooner rather than later if my interview works out, but if not, as Arnie says 'I'll be back'.
